France web casinos worth 1.7bn euros
The newly regulated French online gambling market is predicted to be worth over €1.7 billion by 2015, according to a new report by MECN consulting firm. With the opening of the market to international operators, they predict that French online betting and online poker markets will grow exponentially over the next 6 years.
International gambling operators in the UK and other countries are already anticipating the opening of the French market, and this news will have them even more thrilled. With the American online gambling market in an indeterminate state, these operators grew tired of waiting patiently for its regulation. Instead, they set their sights on the more promising prospect of the French market, which has already showed more potential. International operators have now clearly targeted France, hoping to obtain some of the €1.7 billion in spoils that are estimated to befall the market.
While there still remain many unresolved issues concerning the market’s regulations, 77% of the operators that MECN surveyed stated that they are hoping to obtain a French online poker license. Horseracing, however, a gambling activity popular among the French, is not as coveted, so France may be able to keep their monopoly on that market.
According to MECN’s report, 80% of gambling operators and industry experts believe that the French market is very relevant to the future of their own businesses. In fact, one online gambling representative has stated that: “we will enter the French market as soon as possible; no matter what it takes”.
