Man Utd Crush Bolton 4-0 in English Premier League - 30 March
For yet another straight week, leading English Premier League
football side Manchester United showed why they deserve to be at the
top of
the standings with 72 points, when they dispatched the Bolton
Wanderers 4-0,
who are currently lying fifteenth in the standings with 32 points.
And although football fans expected Manchester United to beat Bolton, to
the
extent they actually did may have been somewhat surprising. Particularly
as
serial gum-chewer and Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson took a
chance by
resting Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick.
It seems the Scotsman was spot on in his read of Bolton, by deciding
that the
team could make do without the talented trio on Saturday, so that they
could get
some much-needed rest ahead of the team's highly anticipated UEFA
Champions
League match against Bayern Munich in Munich on Tuesday.
As for the game itself, to say that Bolton put up a spirited fight would
be
accurate. However, it was one of those games when Manchester was firing
on all
cylinders, and used superb teamwork to wrong-foot Bolton time and again,
leaving
enough space to find the back of the Bolton net on four occasions.
But the English Premier League leaders aside, it is the second place
team,
Chelsea with has 71 points, that football fans all over the UK will be
discussing today around office water coolers, dole offices and job
centers
alike, because The Blues 'thrashed' Aston Villa by a convincing 7-1 on
Saturday.
Chelsea's talented midfielder Frank Lampard particularly shined on
Saturday by
scoring four of his team's seven goals. In fact, his skill took his
total goals
for the season up to 21, which is an incredible achievement for any
midfielder,
and bodes well for his chances in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Of the top three teams, it was only Arsenal, who is third in the Premier
League
with 68 points, that failed to deliver on Saturday, after they were held
to a
1-1 draw by Birmingham, who are ninth in the League. No doubt Arsenal
coach
Arsene Wenger had some choice words for his team after the game.
